10 New Year Resolutions You Should Try

The new year is fast approaching us, and I for one am very ready for it. 2017 was a year that taught me so much about myself that I would have never known otherwise. I started college, and I graduated high school.

The New Year is here, and new year resolutions are being made. My family has already made theirs.

It is time for a change. Every year all that is on social media is “new year, new me”. More than half of those resolutions aren’t going to stand the test of time. Many say that they will look for a new job, go to the gym, lose weight, find love, and so many more things that I can’t list them all. This new year, why don’t we all try some new realistic goals?

10 New Year Resolutions To Try

1. Say one nice thing to a stranger or someone close to you every day even if you don’t like them. Sometimes one nice thing can make someone’s day.

2. Volunteer at that place you have been meaning to at least once within the first month of the new year. That’s when they need people, and if you go then, you will be more likely to return.

3. Want to learn something new? Want to make a Youtube channel, bake, or sing? Make an effort daily to put five minutes toward that activity.

4. Throw away that scale. Rather than have a goal weight to get to, aim for how you want to look. Tone whatever you feel like would make you feel better. Weight and Toning are very different things.

5. Want to enjoy life more?Do one new activity a week that you have been saying you want to do. Life shouldn’t be about how much you make a year.

6. Always want to do something but want to save money? There are a million options to do for $10 or less. Just put a little creativity into your plans and see what happens.

7. Does family mean the most to you but you live so far away? Technology is a great invention. Even if you can’t see your favorite aunt in person, you can always FaceTime or Skype her. She will love it just the same.

8. There are so many hobbies out there that finding one is no problem. Google your city or town and see what there is to do from a tourist’s perspective and go from there.

9. Continuing from the last point, you could find a new friend while trying out all those new hobbies you found. People are everywhere doing all sorts of stuff. Go find them.

10. Treat yourself better. No matter if that’s taking a walk and thinking about your day or if it is meditating for an hour. Self-care is so important, and it seems that more and more people are starting to see that.

Even if you don’t have a New Year’s Resolution, I hope this post inspired you to redo some things or start something new. Life is too short to do nothing or be unhappy. Have that dream that won’t go away? Take a leap of faith and go for it. It may work out.

  1. Yes, I should take more time off work to mingle with friends and family. I’m always glued to the PC working in some fashion. It will be good to be a regular schedule one day. I’m trying to implement a schedule now. Thanks for the reminder.

  2. Wow. Thank you for this! I honestly enjoyed this one (especially numbers 1 to 3). I can definitely relate to those. This NY resolution list is quite realistic too so that’s good. 🙂

  3. The worst things about New Years Resolutions is they are just so hard to keep; but yours seem really doable! You’ll have to make sure to keep us updated on which ones you stick with. I’m adding the take 5 minute rule to my own list, there’s never a day when I don’t have at least 5 minutes to spare!

  4. This is a brilliant list! I pretty much want to do everything in here especially volunteering to a charity/cause. I wanna go and help a animal shelter but the shelter nearest to our place is like 3 hours a way and they require you to do shifting sched for at least 3days a week.

  5. I liked the idea of treating ourselves better. All too often we can neglect ourselves and be overly critical which I know I am guilty of. I would spend a lot of time thinking I was never good enough or not giving myself the me time I needed but ultimately I am in a better state of mind now which is great.

  6. Great ideas! Finding a new hobby is a great idea for a resolution! I would love to start something new, Im not sure what the hobby would be, but I will definitely think about it!

  7. I am addicted to my scale but I think that your list just made me realize I should spoiled my self with my favorite gym place instead, the one that I like more but its more expensive:) great list, need to cut and save for tomorrow to call my aunt during daylight, happy new year

  8. I need to learn how to compliment more to other people. I usually just keep them to myself. And for next year, I hope to travel more and workout more for toning 🙂

  9. Very nice list. I threw my scale out years ago – and had no weight issues ever since.
My resolution for this year is to keep on having a happy life – it’s not a wish, it’s a real resolution…which somehow includes many of your tips 💖

  10. My favorite is number 5, I have a to do list this year that I really wanted. By following number 5, I will be able to do it and enjoy life.

  11. New Year resolutions are truly a great start to excite and welcome another chapter of our lives. I already created my list for new things I wanted to try this year and hopefully I can accomplish if not all at least most of it.

  12. Good list, but I dont make new year’s resolutions. I find they do not work so I am simply setting goals and making new ones throughout the year.

You might try adding a video or a related pic or two to grab readers interested about everything’ve written. In my opinion, it might bring your website a little livelier.

  18. When I initially left a comment I seem to have clicked on the -Notify me when new comments are added- checkbox and from now on each time a comment

There has to be a way you are able to remove me from that service?
